The Native Design Language (NDL) is a collection of re-usable styles, components, and patterns that drive a consistent experience and visual language across the American Express mobile customer journey. It is a documentation repository aimed at Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers looking to create new mobile experiences. It’s looking to give guidance and offer a starting point for what you should expect from mobile experiences from American Express.
Using common design and style for American Express apps has many advantages. For the Enterprise Mobile App, NDL provides us a foundation to build all of our features with. It ensures we follow American Express brand guidelines, gives an accessibility baseline, and encourages a uniform experience throughout the app. From a technical perspective, the NDL enables code reusability, leading to faster delivery of features.
